Dex and the all night alarms

I was sleeping last night for about 2 hours when the first alarm went off.  The receiver said low so I checked.  Sure enough it was.  The arrow was pointing down so I knew my blood sugar was heading even lower.  I took chalktarts to bring it up some.  These are glucose tablets.  Horrible  dusty things that come in great(not)flavors.  They do the trick faster than food so they are great and your not tempted to snack on them so you can have them everywhere.
Little did I know that was just the first alarm of the night.  The darn thing went off all night long for hours.  Looking back the line is fairly even all night.  Low but even.  Only because I keep eating all night long.  My husband thought it was funny I wasn't hungry for dinner right away tonight.  I said I didn't have breakfast till almost noon.  I wasn't hungry till then from eating all night.
It's a good thing I have my little night nanny to watch over me.  After adding up everything I took to fix the lows thru the night.  I think there would have been one heck of a mess without it.

Diabetes Etiquette Wish List

I was reading a forum and they were talking about D etiquette and wouldn't it be nice to hand out cards to the people who think they are food police or amatuer dr's.  A little card that would include a few of the important things like...
-diabetes is a full time job.  One I didn't apply for and one I can't quit.
-I know what I can or can't eat so please don't help me with my food choices.
-I have dr's(maybe more than one) to help me manage my health.  Please keep your suggestions to  yourself.
-It is one scary disease. YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME.  I already know what can happen.
-Yes I have to test, take my shot or do whatever is required here.  It might be at the table at a    restaurant or at my desk at work or just while we are hanging out.  A bathroom is not the best place.
-I have alot of cool medical gadgets.  They aren't toys and I don't know where your hands have been so please don't touch.
-And a big finish...Insulin is NOT a cure.  Just a bandaid for the problem.

AND....Its broke

Can you believe it.  I waited for what seems like forever and my new Dexcom won't work.  I have been watching videos and reading the paperwork for months. I rewatched everything this weekend and when the box showed up last night opened it up started reading again.  Plugged it in for its 3 hour charge and....nothing.  Omg are you kidding me.  You can't believe the letdown.  Dexcom customer service has been really great.  They called me this morning(right when they said they would) and are shipping out a replacement part over night.  Down fall is thanksgiving is going to mess that up but it is on the way.  Fingers crossed friday is the day.

Waiting on Dex

I won my appeal for my Dexcom.  It's on a Fedex truck as I type this.  I have spent the day listening for the truck and running to the door.  I am not the most patient person and for me this is more exciting than a whole year of Christmas days. Tick, tick, tick it's 5:32pm and I have been up and dressed since 8am just in case mr fedex wanted to come early.
I am sure there will be reviews and coments on my new friend Dex in the coming weeks and months.  Just got to get him in the house and set up.

Second Class Citizen

Looking over the blog I published yesterday made me want to explain why I made a comment about being a second class citizen.  I have come across an insurance issue that would cover a type 1 with no problem but for me as a type 2 they want to deny coverage.  I can receive the same health saving benefits as I certainly receive the same health pitfalls for which the product was designed to avoid.  Let me say I think I am a weird type 2.  I was diagnosed in my early 20's(I was even a pretty normal size 14). I survived a few years on oral meds but I am doing so much better on insulin.  I have crazy lows which seems kinda rare from the few type 2 people I have run across.  Yes, I have been tested if your wondering.  I just hate being told no when I am doing everything I can to take care of me.

On another note....I have viewed dozens and dozens of amazing blogs by either type 1 or parents of type 1 diabetics.  I was amazed by the lack of type 2 bloggers.  I would think we have plenty to say.  I am glad to see so many great blogs and have tried to follow many. I hope I have something productive to share and look forward to some online support in the future with a lot of great people

2010 D-blog Day

This years topic is 6 things you want people to know about diabetes.
1.  I may be a type 2 but I deserve the same level of care as a type 1.  I am not a diabetes second class citizen.
2.  Yes I can have a piece of cake at a party.  Thanks for caring but I am paying attention to what I put on my plate.
3.  I do have insurance but diabetes is expensive.  Even good insurance doesn't cover everything.
4.  Humor me.. some days it feels like its a full time job of testing, logging, changing sites and figuring out why the numbers just don't make sense no matter what I do.  Sometimes I just need to talk about it.
5.  Yes! I do need another bag for my supplies.  I have a bag packed for an afternoon shopping trip, long trip out of town and an emergency bag of everything that I can live out of for 2 weeks. I have a ton of stuff to carry and I love bags.  Sooooo, yes I do need another bag.
6.  A blood sugar level isn't a constant thing.  It changes continuously for a lot of different reasons.  Some are easy to figure out and some aren't.
